New Apartment part 1

FILED IN: Home Decor

I cannot even begin to tell y’all how excited I am to write this post and to share this journey with y’all! About a month ago, I moved out of my townhouse to an apartment about 2 miles north. I loved the idea of my townhouse, but hated the reality of it. Being a single woman, I never felt 100% safe living in a place with minimal security and sleeping on the first floor with such easy access to my bedroom never quite sat well with me. I always pictured Freddy Kruger standing in my window wielding a machete.

But that was just the beginning of my troubles. We started having problems a few moths ago and after 2 weeks with no hot water, multiple plumbing backups, and finally the AC unit throwing in the towel, it was time to move out. I started apartment hunting about a month before our lease ended and fell in love with a place in a prime Dallas location. Everything fell into place and although stressful, the move itself was relatively painless.

Now for the fun part…DECORATING!!! I’ve shared my love for interior design with y’all many times before and in fact, when I was in school at FIDM majoring in fashion, I almost changed my major to interior design and sometimes regret not doing it. Fashion is my first love, but interior design is only a hot second behind it.

When it came down to styling the new place, I wanted to change things up a little bit- but I was really happy with how the old house looked. So I kept most things the same and stole pieces from other rooms for a small refresh to the space. The layout in the new place forced me to move pieces around and helped old pieces seem new in the new space.

It has taken me about a month to get everything settled and organized and now that the organizing is all finished, I can finally get to the fun part. I have the living room and dining area completely finished. I’m sure I’ll get inspired to change something up soon but for now, I’m happy with it.

My bedroom is next on the list and then the office. My new bedroom is quite a bit larger than my old one, so I’m planning on letting my creative juices flow and going wild with the space. Hopefully I’ll have it all finished in the next few weeks.

I’m looking forward to finishing the apartment and sharing my progress with y’all. I’d love to hear your feedback and suggestions for future posts. Are there any particular decor posts you would like to see? How to style a coffee table? How to style a nightstand? How to make to make the most out of a small space? Let me know your suggestions and I will work on new home posts soon.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Love your place! Funny I have my degree in merchandising (at the time I was obsessed with wanting to be a fashion buyer lol) and now I sooo wished I would have changed to interior design. But I would have backtracked myself in college way too much! Good thing is that their still somewhat relative to each other in regards to creativity. Glad someone else is out there I can relate too! Lol.
